Welcome to The Wild Return, a newsletter about restoring right order to mind, body, soul and running recklessly toward the Heart of Jesus Christ.
I never considered starting a Substack until social media tyrants began to clamp down on my ability to share Truth and Hope. After all, I have a website, blog, micro blog (where I house Instagram images and posts in preparation for their perhaps inevitable purge of my account), an email list, and various social outlets… why add another?
God works wherever He will and yes, He can overcome algorithms and mean girls. But He also endows His people with intelligence and wisdom; and since entry-level-leftist-yes-men are now policing the metaverse, it is time to get tactical.
I’m not leaving social media, but it’s clearly time to pivot. So…
Welcome to this liberated space where I can write without having to speak in code (look at me saying VACCINE without being put in time out!) and we don’t have to follow social media rules to be in community.
I have to be honest… this feels a little like old school blogging, back when blogging was social media game in town and we actually visited each other’s websites and left comments. Bloglovin’ was my feed reader. And Feedly. And I wrote long things and read long things and sat with slower ideas.
It also reminds me of when I had almost no followers and imagined I was just throwing thoughts into a great forest where my words would go unread for all time except by the Father. New beginnings are delightful in that way.
But I do thrive and grow within dynamic community (a melancholic who needs the counterbalance of people and engagement and outwardness) and I am compelled to publicly testify to the healing power and love of Jesus Christ.
What to expect? I don’t fully know yet. Better to just start than not under the circumstances. I’m sure I might be better compensated with some kind of marketing scheme, but I know people will contribute if they want to. If they don’t, I’m not interested in heavy persuasion. I’m not that good.
Podcast (or some loose form of one)? Yes.
Open community threads? Yes.
Politics? Yes.
Natural health? Yes.
Medical freedom? Yes.
Culture? Yes.
Everything oriented toward the Truth of Jesus Christ? Absolutely. That’s the end game…
Gunning for holiness and our eternal home.
Please know that I don’t have time to do this as well as I ought… so some of you will have to decide if you want to co-exist with my grammatical errors and typos. I dare to call myself a writer but only because I enjoy writing, not because I use any standard of measurement.
If you ever feel inclined to support with a paid subscription or donation, I won’t turn you down. I do think writers and creatives should be compensated generally, but I struggle with the dissonance of hosting Gospel testimony behind a paywall. It’s a constant dance of discernment…
At any rate, here we are together again in a new space (maybe all two of us, I don’t know). Let’s give it a go. All glory to God!
